AKRON: A 59-year-old Papa John’s pizza delivery driver was shot twice in the back Monday night during a robbery on Crane Walk, according to police reports.
Police Capt. Daniel Zampelli said the driver, who lives in Barberton, was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. The hospital on Monday morning did not list the man in their records, meaning he either was released or opted out of the public directory.
The shooting happened at about 10:10 p.m. in the 700 block of Crane Walk. According to police reports, the shooter took an undisclosed amount of money from the delivery driver before fleeing the scene.
The shooter is described as a 19- to 25-year-old black man, 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 inches tall, 130 to 150 pounds. He is of average build and wore a black hooded sweatshirt, according to reports. Police are asking anyone with information to call the detective bureau at 330-375-2490.
Zampelli lamented the shooting, which appeared to be random.
“Poor guy’s just trying to make a living,” the captain said.
