A 17-year-old girl died at an Akron hospital Easter morning after her car was hit from behind on Interstate 76, according to Beacon Journal news partner newsnet5.com.
Police said the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero the girl was in was sitting stationary at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday on the eastbound shoulder of the highway near exit 24 when a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox collided with it. The Equinox was being driven by a 63-year-old Tallmadge man, newsnet5.com reported.
The girl was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
The Tallmadge man was taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash, but no charges have been filed. They are investigating the reason the girl’s car was stopped along the highway.
