A man who was arrested Wednesday on accusations that he was about to bring a gun into a government building in Akron has been released from police custody without charges.
The man was freed after a police investigation determined he didn’t have a gun.
According to police reports, a witness said they thought he had a gun as he tried to enter the Oliver Ocasek Building on South High Street in downtown Akron. Police scanners reported an “active shooter” was inside the building, but those reports proved inaccurate.
The man never entered the Ocasek Building, but the government office was put on lockdown briefly as a safety precaution. Several roads in the area were also closed temporarily pending the investigation and the man’s apprehension.
