A 42-year-old man died Wednesday night after he lost control of a pickup truck on Florida Avenue in Akron.
The crash occurred at about 8:30 p.m. when the driver — whose name has not yet been released by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office — struck a curb and then a concrete retaining wall in the 1200 block of Florida Avenue. The crash left the 1987 Dodge Ram truck wedged between the concrete and a tree.
The driver and his friends removed the truck from the wedged position before police and paramedics arrived. Paramedics transported him to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where he later died of wounds sustained in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, police said. Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor. The driver was not wearing a seat belt.
The medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy. The driver’s name and residence will be released once his family is notified, officials said.
