The woman killed on Monday after exiting a vehicle on state Route 8 has been identified as Tonya R. Johnson, 43, of Canton.
The identification was released on Tuesday by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s office.
An autopsy is to be performed Tuesday, officials said.
According to the Canton Fire Station 4 Facebook page, Johnson worked as a firefighter for the city. The department expressed condolences for Johnson’s death.
Johnson was off duty and in a vehicle traveling south on Route 8 near Tallmadge Avenue about 4 p.m. Following an argument with her husband, Johnson exited the vehicle and crossed three southbound lanes of traffic on foot. She jumped over the median wall and walked into oncoming northbound traffic, where she was struck.
