See last showing of Cleveland-themed ‘The Land’ at Nightlight Cinema

Cleveland-made The Land, a gritty urban drama by writer-director Steven Caple Jr., has gotten some strong backing, including an appearance by Machine Gun Kelly. Its final showing at Akron’s Nightlight Cinema is at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $7-$9 at www.nightlightcinema.com.

Seems like fine evening for the Bard’s ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’

Rubber City Shakespeare is presenting (appropriately) A Midsummer Night’s Dream through Aug. 28. Thursday’s show is at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $16, $14 seniors and students; $12 youth. Performances are at 647 E. Market St., Akron, near Akron City Hospital. 234-252-0272, www.rubbercityshakes.com.

Concert at art museum is followed by Akron’s own ‘The Instructor’

The Instructor is a famously cheesy martial arts movie made in Akron in 1984, featuring an epic chase through the streets and a fight in the Cuyahoga River below the Gorge Dam. The Akron Art Museum will show the film at 9 p.m. with a new score by local musicians, including a preview reel with music by Mark Mothersbaugh. This follows the Downtown@Dusk concert with 15 60 75 The Numbers Band, which starts at 6:30 p.m. in the new garden space outside. http://akronartmuseum.org.
