A gunman wearing a black doo-rag over his face and wearing white gloves robbed the LoanMax auto title lender office at 1340 E. Tallmadge Ave. and a customer there Wednesday afternoon, employees told Akron police.
The employees said the man entered the business shortly before 4 p.m., walked behind the counter and demanded money. He then robbed a customer inside the business near Brittain Road.
The robber is described as being a light-complexioned black male about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 160 to 170 pounds. He wore a black, long-sleeve T-shirt and black pants.
The robbery follows two last week at Family Dollar stores involving gunmen wearing ski masks. The Family Dollar store at 1750 S. Main St. in Firestone Park was robbed Monday night, and the Family Dollar store at 19 N. Arlington St., near East Market Street, was robbed Tuesday night.
Akron police Lt. Rick Edwards said last week that detectives and crime analysts are investigating the Family Dollar store robberies, as well as others in the past few months, to determine if they are related. Edwards said the robbers had handguns, wore dark clothing and most hid their faces with ski masks, bandannas or other types of covering
