Have a Taste of Akron

Taste of Akron has become an enormously popular event, drawing 13,000 noshers last year, and more crowds are expected for the 11th annual event from 6 to 10 p.m. at Hardesty Park in west Akron. About 35 restaurants, caterers and food trucks will serve up samples in exchange for one, two or three tickets, which cost $2 each; they go on sale at 5:30 so get there early to stock up.

The event kicks off the Akron Arts Expo weekend at the park, which includes a wine tasting Friday, the art fair Saturday and Sunday, dance performances Friday and Saturday, and the Akron Symphony Sunday. See the schedule at www.akronartsexpo.org.

See Louie Anderson do stand-up

Louie Anderson has had multiple career tracks — writer, actor, Family Feud host — but returns to his first love, stand-up, at 8 p.m. at the Kent Stage, 175 E. Main St. Local favorite Mike Polk Jr. opens. Tickets are $30, $35 at the door, $25 for students at 330-677-5005 or www.thekentstage.com.

Take kids to carnival or show

A couple of fun choices for kids:

• The 48th Annual Kids Carnival runs from 3-8 p.m. at Bolich Middle School, 2630 13th St., Cuyahoga Falls. It will have pony rides, a petting zoo, super slide, Jupiter Jump, balloon sculptures, clowns, face painting, carnival games, food, prizes and performances. 330-971-8225.

• The Children’s Entertainment Series presents the Jungle Bob Animal Show at 11 a.m. at Boettler Park, 5300 Massillon Road, Green. It’s free; you can bring a blanket or lawn chairs and a picnic lunch. www.facebook.com/cityofgreenohio.
