CONNEAUT, OHIO: Officials have identified the body of a teen boy pulled from the water near a northeast Ohio beach.
Authorities say 16-year-old Jakub Hess had been missing since Sunday. His body was found late Tuesday afternoon in about eight feet of water at Conneaut Township Park, about 65 miles northeast of Cleveland.
Rescue crews found the Hiram boy’s body about 50 to 60 feet from the shore.
Officials say the water had been rough and Hess couldn’t make it to the shore on Sunday. His step brother called 911 when he couldn’t save him.
Ashtabula County investigators say the preliminary cause of death is accidental drowning. An autopsy is planned this week.
