CLEVELAND: A Northeast Ohio police officer will avoid jail but must serve a year of probation for beating a man last spring following a police charity event in Cleveland.
WOIO-TV reports Adam Campbell was sentenced on Thursday after jurors convicted him of assaulting Steven Crupp in March 2015. Crupp suffered six broken ribs, a fractured hip and an abscessed tooth in the incident.
The Akron police officer had been accused of attacking Crupp after a police scholarship fundraiser. He’s been on unpaid leave.
Campbell must pay a $500 fine, court costs and $1,000 to the victim. He must also complete an anger management course. He’ll be sent to jail if he violates his probation.
Campbell’s lawyer says he expects there will be a civil suit and an appeal.
